Saturday - July 1th at 20.30 hours:
ZWOLLE: Open-air evening concert by THE AMSTERDAM SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA conducted by Peter Sánta at the Rode Torenplein (Red Tower Square in Zwolle - Netherlands). Special guest is the young Dutch mandolinist Ferdinand Binnendijk This concert is a part of the Summer Festival The City as Theatre in Zwolle and has grown into one of the most sizable open-air productions in the Netherlands. Every year the concert opens with a more or less traditional and classic concert programme. By gradially adding other music- and art forms in the course of the evening it develops in a spectacular, multi disciplined music theatre production.
The evening progamme of the open-air concert starts with Pelléas et Mélisande by Gabriel Fauré, the Mandolin Concerto No.1 composed by the American composer John Craton for solo Mandolin and String orchestra. Special guest in this work with orchestra is the 15 year old Dutch mandolinist Ferdinand Binnendijk. The first half ends with George Bizet´s 1st and 2nd Carmen Suites. After the pause the programm will continue with Anton Dvorjak´s Largo (Aus der Neue Welt), Henk Meutgeert´s Ouverture Firiety, Richard Galliano´s Tango Pour Claude, Astor Piazolla´s Oblivion and Concierto para Quinteto, Duke Ellington´s Caravan and It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing and George Gershwin´s I loves you Porgy. The concert will be concluded with the Finale De Stad Als Theater, a work by the well-known Dutch composer Henk Meutgeert.
